Policy Demands

  1. Tires should only be collected and sorted by certified companies.
  2. Used tires and tire casings must be excluded from the scope of the EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation).
  3. Tires generated within the EU must be recycled within the
    EU + 3 (CH, N, UK).
  4. Tires imported into the EU must be demonstrably suitable for retreading.
  5. The issue that retreaded tires cannot be used due to a lack of labeling regulations under the EU Taxonomy Regulation must be resolved.
  6. A tax reduction per tire should be granted for the use of retreaded tires.
  7. Retreaded tires must be given priority in public procurement, provided they are available.
  8. Municipalities and municipal companies must achieve a 50% quota of retreaded tires if available.
  9. The variety of dimensions for passenger car tires must be regulated by law to enable efficient and economically viable retreading of passenger car tires.
  10. EU Ecodesign Directive: Tire manufacturers must consider retreadability when developing new tires and provide transparent information.
  11. Import duties must be imposed on all tires imported below material/manufacturing costs. The level of duties should be reviewed every two years (due to fluctuations in raw material/energy costs). The costs for these procedures cannot be borne by EU manufacturers.
